Zodiac has earned an international reputation for quality and innovation since its evolving in 1882 by Ariste Calame of Le Locle, Switzerland. His family was well famous for their quality matchmaking. Ariste Calame was founded this watch company in 1882 in form of asmall workshop. The original name of the company was Ariste Calame. The name "Zodiac" was used early but was not registered until 1908. The founder’s son, Louis Ariste Calame, was sent to Watchmaking School and then began to participate in the business in 1895. Under his direction the business Calame, took over the business that year.

The company produced the first automatic sports watch in 1930. The Zodiac Autographic a well famous Zodiac watches in today whose ad in 1955 described it as "The world's most modern watch". It was self-winding with a power reserve gauge, had an unbreakable crystal, a radium dial, 17 jewels, and was water- and shock-resistant. Then it became the official watch of the Swiss Federal Railways. In the 1970s, Zodiac produced the first Swiss-made analog quartz watch called the Sea Wolf, which also became the official watch of the U.S. Navy Seals during the quartz fashion.

The Zodiac Super Sea Wolf watch was weighing a huge 200 grams, can you believe this size? In fact with a massive dial and a fearsome-looking bezel, this became an important diver's watch. It can provide for an easy grip even with your gloves on with its saw-blade shaped bezel. Any how its water-resistant is up to 1000 meters approximately 3,330 feet. That is why this watch was approved by the Navy Seals. You will be satisfied when diving because its oversized minute hand. In fact all three hands are filled with tritium and light up fairly well. Any how the crystal is of scratch-proof sapphire, but lacks a reflective coating. No matter how it is still a smart "manly watch" which you can get in around $1000.

Due to excellent Swiss sports watches, Zodiac watches become very popular then and now. Even the company launched a vigorous and image-changing ad campaign at the 2005 Basel Fair with the tagline, "The New Face of Swiss" to counter to the growing watch market. Now a day you will found gorgeous colors of sport watches, high-quality sapphire and mineral crystals for an active lifestyle from the Zodiac watch liners.

Around for more than 120 years now Zodiac watches have been marked a new beginning for these fine Swiss watches when the company was purchased by remnant in this new millennium. This is why Vintage Zodiac watches have become respected collector's items and increase in market value each year.
