Cartier watches have been known over their years for their grace, style and uniqueness. Cartier is one the leading watch manufacturers and these watches have been adorned by the famous and rich. Louis Francois Cartier started this watch manufacturing company in 1847 and it has been dominating the market since many years and the trend is likely to continue in the future.

The Cartier watches became fashion statement for the wealthy and famous in the beginning of 20th century and there's has been no stopping ever since. The business during this time was run by Cartier's grandsons namely Louis, Pierre and Jacques. Cartier's boutiques in London, New York and Paris became the hangouts for the rich and affluent people.

However the credit for giving the value and name to Cartier's watches goes to Louis. He was the one who introduced the first actual Cartier wristwatch in 1904. The wristwatch got its name from Alberto Santos Dumont who was an aviator from Brazil. The watch created waves in the watch manufacturing industry. As a result of this, Louis Cartier was encouraged to introduce jeweled watches. These watches were introduced in 1906 and all these watches eventually turned out to be bestsellers!

The Cartier Tank watch is the most famous Cartier watch which was introduced in 1917 by Louis Cartier. This watch was made to pay homage to the tank commanders associated in saving France's reputation in the First World War. This watch actually turned out to be a milestone in the growth of Cartier Company in the watch making industry.

One of the Cartier's great success stories was introduction of its water proof watch in 1933. The watch which was made for the Pasha (of Marrakech) had a striking round case which was made up of pure gold. The watch was a runaway success.

Louis Cartier was indeed a design expert who kept on introducing new watches in the market. This eventually strengthened Cartier's position as watchmakers. He designed the most innovative and beautiful watches of that era. He had endless ideas which were absolutely unique. He designed a number of watches which became classics like the Santos, Bagnoire, Panther, Pasha, Tank, Diabolo and Tonneau. Other than designing watches Louis Cartier also designed a number of accessories. These accessories were later taken up by other watch making companies. Folding clasp was one such popular accessory which was made by Louis in the year 1910.

Louis Cartier designs continue to influence the company's watch designers till now. The company introduced Tank Francaise in 1996(which was inspired from Louis Cartier's design). This watch comes in three different sizes. The watch has a number of movements like quartz or automatic. Its additional features include a calendar. It also has automatic time zone feature which changes automatically according to the time zones.

Cartier has been the leader in watch manufacturing market for over 150 years. However they still continue to strive for better quality products. Its watches are graceful and magnificent. They are also very durable!
